Simple CSV Bulk Import
With Auctiva's Simple CSV Bulk Import tool, you have the power to create thousands of new product listings and activate them on all available integrated channels, with a single file.
With the Simple CSV Import template is simple; you only need to provide minimal product information, such as the item's SKUs, GTINs (like UPC, EAN or ISBN), and offer details. We'll simply match your product to the marketplace's catalog item and populate all of the product information for you. In other words, if your product's GTIN matches a product in that marketplace's catalog, we will create the listing for you with no extra work required on your part. In the case your GTIN does not match an item in a particular marketplace's catalog, we will create a draft listing for you within your Auctiva account so that you can complete the listing at a later time.
This tool is especially helpful for those who have established GTINs (UPCs, EANs, ISBNs). Whether you are bringing your brick and mortar business online for the first time, run a dropship business or you're just a large volume seller who prefers to manage your inventory with a file based system, this tool will help you quickly add new products to your selling channels. This tutorial provides step-by-step guidelines on how to create your import file and upload it to Auctiva.
Step 1: Download the Import File Template
Go to the CSV Bulk Import tool by hovering over "Products", and clicking on the "CSV File Import & Editor" link (Figure 1).
Click the toggle so that "Importing New Products" is highlighted (Figure 1.1A) and then click the Simple CSV Import tool option (Figure 1.1B).
Click on "example file" (Figure 1.2A) to download the Import File Template. Generally you will see the downloaded file near the bottom of your window (Figure 1.2B), if not, go to your computer's downloaded files and locate it there. If you have the Excel program, double click on the file to open it up.
Step 2: Understanding what values are accepted and what's required
Before you start adding product information to the import file, it is important to understand what information is required, optional, and what the acceptable values are for each column. Review the image (Figure 2) below to understand what information is required when using the CSV Bulk Import tool.
Now, in order for the import file to be uploaded and processed correctly, make sure you are using acceptable values for each column. Below you will see examples of what the acceptable values are (Figure 2.1).
Step 3: Enter your product & offer details into the import file
Now that you understand which columns are required and what the acceptable values are for each, fill out the import file template for the new products you want to start selling. View Figure 3 below to see an example of a file that's ready for upload.
It's very important that your GTINs (UPCs, EANs, and/or ISBNs) are in a plain text format. Generally, if you do a simple copy and paste of your products' GTINs into the Import file, Excel may apply a "general" format which will display your GTINs in an unacceptable format (Figure 3.1).
If you attempt to upload a file with GTINs in the format shown in Figure 3.1 above, it will fail. When pasting your GTINs, follow these 4 steps:
- A. Highlight the entire "B" column (Figure 3.2A)
- B. Change the format to "text" (Figure 3.2B)
- C. Right click and select "paste special" (Figure 3.3A)
- D. Then select the "text" option (Figure 3.3B) and click "ok" (Figure 3.3C)
Following the steps above will ensure that your GTINs are in the acceptable format. Now, enter in the rest of your product information. Once all details have been entered into the document, be sure to save your file in the .CSV format, by going to File, Save As (Figure 3.4) and then selecting the .CSV option (Figure 3.5).
Step 4: Upload your product import file to Auctiva
To upload your prepared import file to Auctiva, locate the file on your computer (Figure 4A), then drag it over to the upload CSV file area (Figure 4B).
After dropping your completed import file into the upload area, you will have the opportunity to pick which Amazon Shipping Template (Figure 4.1A) and which eBay Business Policies (Figure 4.1B) you want these new listings to offer. Then click the "Import Product File Now" button (Figure 4.1C) to start the import.
Step 5: Verify the results by checking your CSV Event Log
You're almost done! Auctiva will take your file's data and automatically create listings for you across all of the marketplaces you chose. To verify your import completed, go to the CSV Import page and scroll down to the CSV Event Log section (Figure 5). If the status column shows the import is processing, click the refresh button (Figure 5A) to see how many products have completed so far. When the file finishes processing the status column will show "completed". Additionally, if there were any issues, click on the number in the error column (Figure 5B) to see why a product failed to import.
After your file has completed, you will then see all of your new products on your Auctiva Product Catalog page.
