I just listed some new quilted greyhound martingale collars that were inspired by my mom, who is a fantastic quilter. She always has many scraps leftover, so I decided to create collars out of some of the combinations to create some one-of-a-kind designs.  Please have a look and be sure to contact me if you have any questions!  

I get a lot of questions from people who are wondering if my fleece coats are water-repellent or water-proof.  It made me wonder about fleece in general, so I looked it up. I found a helpful little blurb on www.eHow.com:

 "There are a number of significant advantages to using fleece fabric. It is easy to sew and launders well. It is machine washable and dries quickly because of its construction and is therefore also water repellent. For this reason, it also wicks moisture away from the body, making it appealing for outdoor and athletic wear. The fabric itself is lightweight, soft, very comfortable and extremely warm. It is available in many colors, patterns and prints. Fleece is an excellent alternative fabric for anyone allergic to wool. And it may be considered earth friendly since some fleece fabrics are made from recycled plastic bottles."

So, there is your answer. Though not waterproof, I guess all "fleece" is water repellent to a degree.  I know that my standard poodle's coat keeps her nice and dry in a drizzle or light snow, and it also dries pretty quickly after we get home.  I have not tested it in a downpour because frankly, I don't want to be out walking in a downpour, and neither does she.  Anyway, my waterproof nylon raincoats are coming soon, so if you do like to (or need to) walk your dog in a heavy rain, check them out!

Back by popular demand... rain coats will be back on the menu. I sold 100% waterproof 200 denier nylon raincoats last year, and since then people have been asking about them, so I am in the process of gathering my materials again, and seeing what colors I still have.

I can of course make these coats to fit, or some customers have asked for them to be a bit bigger to fit over a fleece coat. These raincoats are lined with flannel, so will be nice and soft for short-haired dogs, and a lightweight coat for the warmer Spring temps.

I started to sew coats for dogs several years ago when I was cleaning out the house and looking for things to list on eBay. I found one of my greyhound's coats that he no longer used and I thought- Hey, I think I can make these! I have owned three wonderful greyhounds, starting in 1994 with our Charley.

Since then my coats have evolved. I make coats for dogs of all sizes, and I love all of the different projects. I use anti-pill and blizzard fleece as well as fluffy sherpa for the coats that I make. I have made several insulated raincoats through custom orders out of waterproof nylon as well. I love to pick out fabrics and have lots of fleece, sherpa, and nylon in stock.

** I periodically donate to animals charities as I can with some of the profits from my sales. I am passionate about animal protection and just cannot tolerate cruelty in any way. If you are from a rescue group that is listed on the missionfish website, let me know, I will happily run an auction to benefit your group. As you can see I am not much of a blogger, and haven't updated my blog since last year.  Anyway, I am so happy that you are taking a minute to check out my coats and new collars and leashes. Ordering is easy. Once you choose the right size listing for your pet, I just need its three specific measurements (back length, around the deepest part of the chest, and neck) , top two fabric choices, and breed and gender are helpful to know as well.

I ask for your top two fabrics just in case I am running low on a certain one. I try hard to always stock the fabrics that I have in my pictures, but sometimes it is out of my control. If that is the case, I try to replace that one with a new equally appealing fabric.

I consider myself very easy to work with, so please don't hesitate to ask if you have a specific request. I have worked with many people on custom coats, and to be honest, I love a challenge!
