eBay users can now test out a new search experience that eBay says will help buyers get the item details they need quicker and more easily, speeding up their buying experience.
With the Search Preview Experience, shoppers can see certain details of a listing in a pop-up window that appears right on the search results page. Information they'll see includes price and shipping cost, item condition and item details as well as the sellers return policy, feedback rating and location. A partial description is shown, however, buyers will have to open the listing to read the item's full description.
"The new Search Preview Experience is designed to let users instantly view key product details, as well as large photos of products, all without leaving the search results page, speeding up the process of navigating the site and finding what you're looking for on eBay," says Jonas Klink, senior product manager for eBay Search.
Tests show buyers spend a lot of time "jumping" from the search result page to items detail pages, he notes.
"We developed the new Search Preview Experience in response to customers' needs, including buyers and sellers from our research labs," adds Andy Palmer, senior manager for Buyer Experience. "What we heard is that sometimes it can be time consuming to figure out what to buy, and then whom you wish to purchase from on eBay, so we designed a new, richer previewing experience on the search page. The goal is to provide users with the information they need to make a purchase decision directly from our search experience."
eBay users can opt to try out the feature by going to the Garden by eBay. The page also invites testers to leave feedback about the new feature.
