eBay has called off its eBay Live! event planned for August 2010 in Orlando, FL, and instead will host a smaller, more locally-oriented gathering there in February.
The change comes as part of a larger announcement that eBay will replace its annual eBay Live! fete with a traveling series of user summits. Known as "eBay: On Location," the program is aimed at providing the same type of networking and educational opportunities for eBay buyers and sellers, but on a smaller scale.
"Many sellers and buyers have told us that although eBay Live! is a terrific way to learn and network, they would enjoy more local events that don't require costly travel," notes Lorrie Norrington, president of eBay Marketplaces. "eBay: On Location will provide just that—an easier way for you to come together, learn about eBay from experts and each other, network and, of course, celebrate. Our goal is to provide eBay: On Location within a day's drive for as many sellers and buyers as possible."
eBay had already cancelled eBay Live! for 2009, opting instead to host a handful of more intimate seller-focused gatherings around the country. That move—made amid a series of policy changes affecting sellers—was billed as an opportunity for eBay's top producers to have more meaningful exchanges with company executives.
eBay: On Location will wrap up in San Jose, Calif., next August, with a celebration of eBay's 15th anniversary at its headquarters. Additional cities and dates are still being planned. Users may sign up to receive e-mail updates at www.ebayonlocationevents.com.
