Select eBayers will have another payment option when they head to the checkout in the coming weeks, PayPal announced.

According to Sam Shrauger, PayPal's vice president of global product strategy, qualified eBay buyers will be able to use Bill Me Later as a payment option when they shop on the marketplace and checkout using PayPal. PayPal will automatically add Bill Me Later as an option for a select group of sellers, who will be notified via e-mail that they can use this payment option.

The pilot program will begin on eBay's U.S. site and is expected to be extended to more eBay users in the coming months.

"We're excited about this new choice for buyers and about the benefits it can bring to sellers," Shrauger writes on PayPal's blog. "We'll be listening carefully to buyer and seller reaction during the initial beta launch, and we look forward to introducing this new option to more buyers and sellers in the coming months."

According to news reports, introductory prices and specials may be offered when the payment option becomes available.

Currently thousands of merchants, including Apple, Borders, Bluefly, Toshiba and Toys "R" Us accept Bill Me Later, which allows buyers to purchase goods online and over the phone without using a credit card.

eBay acquired Bill Me Later last October.
