Amazon is hiring staff for14 fulfillment centers located throughout the country, company officials announced Monday.
While the retailer did not say how many employees it will hire, it did say jobs will be full time, and will be in its operations, human resources and technical support departments.
The fulfillment centers for which Amazon is hiring are located in six states, including Arizona, Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada and Pennsylvania. Amazon operates an estimated 60 fulfillment centers throughout the world, and about 28 in the United States, according to news reports.
Some politicians have used fulfillment centers such as these to argue that Amazon should collect sales tax from customers who live in the states where the centers are located. They contend that the facilities constitute a physical presence in a state—a requirement for states to ask companies for sales tax. Amazon has fought this argument.
In February, the retailer closed its distribution center in Texas after the state tried to collect $269 million from Amazon in uncollected sales taxes.
